COTTLE SCHOOL Principal's Message March 12, 2021 Dear Cottle Families, Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Satchel Paige once famously said, “Don’t look back. Something might be gaining on you.” Despite, Satchel’s admonition, I did look back to this date last year. March 12, 2020 was the very date when WEC closed temporarily and all school activities and TASC had to be cancelled due to Covid-19 instructions from the NYS Dept. of Education and the Governor’s Office. Little did we know what was ahead of us! I think Satchel Paige would agree that, although the pandemic was “gaining on us,” Cottle kept instituting measures to keep our students and staff safe and to minimize the threatened disruption to students’ learning. Over the course of the last year, first our outstanding faculty mastered remote teaching. Next, in September, we brought back Grades K-3 for in person learning, followed by Grades 4-5 after we physically rearranged all rooms to meet social distancing requirements and instituted strict hygiene, security, and reporting protocols. As we navigated throughout this unique period, our wonderful Tuckahoe community displayed great understanding, patience and cooperation.
